New Survey Reveals How Often People Let Unqualified Workmen Into Their Homes
Increased regulation means the demand for skilled, trained workers is increasing, as cowboys are restricted from trading.
People Often Let Unqualified Workmen In Their Homes
New Career Skills, training provider for mature career changers, recently carried out a survey to discover if, in this age of ‘rogue traders’, the public really know what qualifications they should be looking for in a tradesperson. The result was worrying.
A huge 60% of the people asked had never heard of the Part P qualification, which is part of the Building Regulations law that came into effect two years ago and is intended to increase the safety of households and work done within them.
Out of those that had heard of Part P, only 10% were aware of its importance when employing an electrician or. Also rather interestingly, 90% of people would firstly look for the CORGI sign when hiring a plumber – CORGI is only required by gas engineers.
Trevor Dormedy, Managing Director of New Career Skills said: “There are a lot of so-called professionals out there who are trading without the experience and qualifications that they need. It is easy for people to let them into their homes and unwittingly receive a second-rate, or even dangerous, service. It is very important that people are made aware of this and that they look out for tradesmen with the right qualifications”.
