Student Shortlisted for Britain’s Top Tradesman
New Career Skills, is throwing its support behind one of its former students, who has made the finals of a national competition.
Student - Lloyd Wilson
Lloyd Wilson, who trained as an electrical installer with New Career Skills and went on to set up his own company, has made it into the final 10 of ‘Britain’s Top Tradesman’.
The competition, run by Screwfix, is searching for tradesmen who go the extra mile with devotion to their jobs.
Lloyd, 38, was whittled down to the top 10 and faced an X-Factor style interview with top industry judges at Silverstone. He now has to wait until the first week of June to find out if he has come out on top and staff at New Career Skills are keeping everything crossed for him.
CEO, Steven Wines, said: “We are so proud that one of our graduates has been singled out for this recognition. He was a model student during his time with us, putting every effort into his studies so I’m not surprised that he has been praised for his dedication. So many of our students go on to achieve great success in their careers so it is pleasing to see one of these students publicly rewarded.”
Lloyd decided to retrain with New Career Skills after years of working in the engineering trade. His ambition was to earn more money and build a better future for himself in a higher earning career. He was so dedicated that he set up his own company, Lloyd’s Electrical Services Ltd, with the help of New Career Skills during his studies.
He ran his business while holding down another full time job until December last year, when he took the leap of running Lloyd’s Electrical Services Ltd full time.
Lloyd said: “I’m very happy, albeit slightly surprised, to be in the final 10 for this competition. It’s great to know that everyone at New Career Skills is behind me and if it wasn’t for their tutelage and support, I wouldn’t be in this great position today!”
