John
Previously John was a postman, but he had to give up his job to care for his wife, who was ill at the time and their son who had down syndrome. This meant that John was out of work for two years.
As John’s wife become well, he decided at the age of 40+ he had a choice to make, what could he do to get back into work and make a decent living and work flexile hours?
Whilst pondering over this for a few months, John saw an article about New Career Skills and the plumbing industry. John made the call and arranged to meet with a Career Advisor.
“I was so impressed that the Career Advisor spent a couple of hours talking me through the industry, changing career, the course and my opportunities. After the meeting I spoke with my wife and friends about it and they were all very positive about the opportunity and more importantly that I could do it.”
John ended up enrolling with New Career Skills and has gone from strength to strength. The tutors have not just seen a great change in John’s plumber ability but also his self-confidence.
Talking at one of his practical training sessions, John said, “Currently I am at the second stage of my practical training and the learning curve has been huge. I did not expect this at all. The tutors have been unbelievable not to mention the facilities. They have everything here its incredible.”
“I found the theory a little taxing and at points boring but you realise how important it is when you come and do your practical training. Although I am now where near finished the course and am now doing a little bit of plumbing for my family and friends.”
“I have bought a van and once I have finished I will be fully setting up my own business. Hopefully I can get one of my sons involved and build up a good family business.”
