Ben
Ben is 27 years old and comes from Norfolk where he was running a successful business in haulage/storage. However, he did not feel fulfilled as he was stuck behind a desk all day so he decided to sell his business and move south. Ben and his wife are both keen sailors and have their own boat so Southampton seemed a good choice. Also important in their decision was the fact that they had family living in Chichester.
Having made his big decision, Ben thought that this was a great opportunity to change not only his home, but also his career.
Ben had enjoyed renovating properties and realized that he was interested in the electrical work involved. He had always found it imperative to understand every aspect of the various trades involved in renovations.
Ben then set about searching for what he considered was the right electrical course and found that New Career Skills offered one which ticked all the right boxes for him.
At the first week of Practical Training Ben said he felt really slow and a bit unsettled doing the course and he thought the best way forward was for him to get with a company who would be willing to help him gain experience and improve on his speed.
Ben decided to look in the Yellow Pages and phoned a number of Companies. He left a message on Ampfield Electrical answer machine. The very next day he received a call from John Evans inviting him for an interview. The interview went extremely well and Ben started immediately. John employs 5 other electricians so Ben was very fortunate to work alongside each and every one of them giving him the benefit and insight of working with experienced electricians.
After working at Ampfield Electrical for a few weeks, Ben returned to New Career Skills for another week of Practical Training and was amazed at the progress and speed he had made in such a short time.
Ben has now completed the course and is in full time employment with Ampfield Electrical where his work has covered a variety of tasks. Recently he was working on a Toyota Showroom which is a commercial premises, and he often goes out to do domestic electrical jobs on his own, as well as working as a team member with the other electricians. Recently he did a job putting down lights and extra sockets in to a customer’s home.
The customer was so delighted with his work he wrote an e-mail to the Ampfield Electrical owner (John Evans) to express his gratitude for the way Ben had worked within his home.
